A young woman who was raised at a wayshrine, having been left behind as an infant. While kind and reliable, she lacks ambition and was content with life at the shrine. However, her otherworldly and beautiful appearance mixed with her lovely singing voice caused travelers to make up stories of the 'Red-haired Maiden' and her magical songs. She ended up being forced to flee Majin lands to escape from those who would use her for their own purposes, and had to learn how to use her song magic in order to survive. She was treated with suspicion in the Nam-eun city of Guwon, originally only having the trust of the family of a young shaman. However, her dedication to becoming part of Nam-eun society eventually convinced her new neighbors to accept her.
Mizuyo's divine powers and appearance come from a yokai ancestry, but she never seeks nor discovers her family history. For all she knows, she is entirely Majin.
By the start of the second book, Mizuyo has become a confident member of the fishcatchers, using her songs to bolster the strength of her companions. She considers In-suk's family to be her own at this point, and is willing to go to great lengths to do what is best for them.
