Important Notes
Sangmi usually keeps her hair in a ponytail draped over her shoulder when in public. She uses magic to change streaks of her hair green, similar to dye highlights. This can bring attention to her green eyes, which tend to be rare among the Hye.
Sangmi tends to be sardonic and playful, leaning into the public perception that she is a dangerous witch. However, she does not suffer fools, and can become deadly serious when faced with stupidity or malice. She has a soft spot for those she trusts or cares for, sparing them the brunt of her teasing and sarcasm.
Story
A Hye woman that was raised to work at her family's inn and always loved to listen to stories of far-off places. When she discovered her talent for magic, she made use of her ability to entertain guests. One day, a performance involving fire went wrong and caused a blaze that killed a regional magistrate and nearly destroyed her family's inn. Branded a witch by the community, even her family eventually grew tired of protecting her, and so she left town to keep her family safe from retaliation.
Finding herself with no means of making a living, Sangmi eventually made her way to a camp used by explorers near the Crawling Forest (Gieoganeun Forest). Working with the adventurers, she helped set up a proper rest stop on the road, which she turned into an inn complex called the Last Respite. Even though news spread of her reputation as a witch, explorers braving the cursed forest begrudingly trusted Sangmi as the innkeeper, since few others were willing to maintain the Last Respite for any length of time.
While Sangmi once formed a few close bonds with the adventurers and treasure hunters passing through, the ephemeral nature of these relationships have slowly made her more distant. Understanding that she was more tolerated than adored, she eventually stopped fighting the rumors that she was the Witch of the Crawling Forest.
