I'm migrating! For a while now I've felt like I've not been updating my website enough, but some of the limitations imposed on WordPress.com's free plan kept making it annoying to try to do certain things, whether that meant slowing down the creation of updates or preventing certain styling options without a paid plan. Once I realized that most of what I wanted to do was still under the concept of a "static website", I started looking into some of the options for such a thing. For now, that means what we see here: a Pelican-powered website hosted on GitHub Pages.
Just about everything from the old website has been migrated or carried over in some way, including some (but not yet all) of the stuff that wasn't previously public. Not only that, but I've already started adding some new stuff to the site and ported over some of my major itch.io devlogs as blog posts. In addition to all of that, having a way to view and edit the source files of the website offline (at the cost of not being able to post from my phone) makes it so much easier to draft posts/pages and add image files. While future updates will still rely on me finding the motivation and time to work on the site, I think there will be fewer situations where the platform itself slows me down.
While I have no plans of outright shutting down the WordPress.com site, I'm probably going to focus exclusively on this site going forward. I'll put a link here on the front page of that site, but otherwise it will be easier to just leave the site as-is for now.
As before, expect this place to be in a bit of flux, where styling or layout may change as I try to clean up the site. While I think I'm launching here with a decent framework, I can't say for certain that there won't be big changes.
As for actual content, here's what's up for viewing on this initial version of the site:
- Pages for each story setting, now with sub-pages for each story or project (also with pages for standalone or derivative works)
- Blog updates/articles about story projects, settings, or game devlogs (also searchable in an archive list or by tags)
- The game streaming guidelines, with space for presskits when they're ready
- NEW: A previously privated collection of character art references (major story spoilers unmarked, and currently a work in progress)
- NEW: Quick links to find books, games, or socials at the bottom of the site
I'm looking forward to this new era for the project website, and so I hope this update is fun for others too. I'll hopefully have some updates for story projects soon, so look forward to that. In the meantime, I hope people continue to enjoy the existing stories!
